Hello fellow pool players. I hope each and every one of you are planning on bringing in the New Year at your favorite pool room. As for my husband and I, that is exactly what we plan to do.
Actually I've been thinking a lot about the past year and realize that I haven't done my part as a pool player. I've withdrawn from the leagues and seldom get around to the pool rooms to practice or play in tournaments. That changes now - Today! For 2010, I plan on increasing my time hanging with friends and playing pool - I'm gonna play in a lot more tournaments because I love the competition and I love the sport.
With the struggling economy, pool rooms are finding it harder and harder to hang on but as players, we can all do our part to make a difference. Most of us take for granted our favorite pool room will be here next year and then we are almost always shocked when we find out one of them has closed. Even rooms we only occasionally play in; when they shut the doors, we loose a part of our life with and only memories remain.
So If you are thinking, that is me - I haven't played as much as I used to either, make a change for 2010 and get out there and have some fun. Really, can you think of a better way to bring in the New Year? Hanging out with friends, having a beer and playing some great pool. Hey who knows, I may see you there!

Home Made POOL Ball Polisher - $35
Do you have a pool table at home and need a Pool Ball Polisher but cannot afford the $300-$600 cost for these? Well thanks to Force Follow, I have learned to build my own for a low cost price of $35. And to my surprise, it works amazingly well. See my video below.

Disapearing Pool Table
So the only room you could fit a pool table is your living room - what do you do? Check out this great video I found on youtube.
I need one built here at my house - how great would that be to push a button and a pool table appear? Love that!

Characters of great Pool Players
The Will to Practice
The Guts to Compete
The Desire to be the Best
These are the characters of great Pool Players!
Practice on a regular basis is sometimes hard to obtain depending on what is going on in your life. I've found if I play on a league - I will practice more. Having that commitment to be at the pool room every week is sometimes a hard choice to make. Of course there is always an excuse I could make but why? I love to play pool... So I must have the will to practice...
Competition in league play is great but why stop there. Some of the best competition is playing in a local pool tournament. Yes, there is an entry fee (money well spent) not to mention you may get a chance to play some of the best players out there... You may or may not win your matches but you will learn a lot in the process. Also a friendly money game is good for your focus - you don't have to play for $1,000 per set.. Sometimes a few dollars a game will do. You must have the Guts to compete.
Desire is a big word in many ways. Do you want to be the best? If so, what are you doing about it? How big is your desire? Great players are like sponges, soaking up every bit of information out there. They study the table, the shots and the players, learning little tips along the way. Most great players also keep a notebook with notes about shots, safety's and evaluations on the players they've played or observed - You may not know where your game is deficient but other players do. Great players know that knowledge is power and they have a desire to be the best. What is your desire?

Tax Time... April 15th
Today is April 15th and I'm going to have to rush to the post office later today.
I hate doing my taxes and again I've waited until the last hours to finish them. Why do I do this and punish myself every year? Business taxes, Rental Property and more, make me dread this task every year. I look hard to find exemptions or credits and am disappointed year after year because it is what it is.
I hope you had a better result than I did and maybe you are receiving a refund instead of paying in. And just to think, after I write the checks today, I have 364 days before I have to do this again. LOL Hummmm

New POOL and billiards site
Well as most of you know, I am always trying to promote Pool in every way I can. I would like to take a moment and tell you a little about a POOL related site I was introduced to and invite you to join.
I've found a great pool site that is very cool. Free Membership and you can have your own personal profile, Photo Albums, Blog, Chat, IM, Classified section - the best this is, it is all about POOL.
I get points for inviting people, I don't really know what the points are for - but I want them.. LOL
Here is my referral link for you to join - I do get a Billiard Community Tee for 10 referrals and a Cue for 100 referrals - I think you will like it a lot.
Hope to see you there.
Angela

What is in a business name
In our sport some of the terms and names are used over and over. Pool Room names like The Corner Pocket, Breakers, The Pool Room, Break Time, Shooters etc. can be found everywhere. So why aren't these business' crying foul? Because, this is just silly. The names they chose easily lets us pool players recognize their business as a pool room.
When you start a business, you put a lot of thought into a name for it. Do you go with a unique name like Ebay (which doesn't describe the business) and Trademark it? Or do you simply use descriptive terms like Pool Room Tees which really is descriptive of what I do. Looking at my name - Pool is the Sport most of my designs feature, Room when put with the first word - is where we play our sport, Tees is what I sell. http://www. PoolRoomTees.com
Now that being said lets think about Cue makers. I'm sure some of them use the term Pool Cues. You also have same names, SE Cues (South East Cues) but you also have SE Cues (Special Edition Cues) only the font changes on their SE Cues logos.
So now, What is in a Name... A great point to ponder today!

Pool with Helena Thornfeldt, the Sledgehammer
Last night while at Mr Cues 2, a local pool room here in Atlanta, I had the pleasure of playing one of the top WPBA women players, Helena Thornfeldt. This was the match to see which one of us would be in the money and I won.
Helena Thornfeldt, from Sweden is most known for her massive break and her nickname is rightfully known as "The Sledgehammer"

I want to personally thank Helena for coming out and playing pool with us last night. It isn't every day you get the opportunity to play such a great player. She was very gracious as I celebrated my win - maybe a bit much.. LOL But the truth is, we had a great match and for me, a memorable one.

Jean Balukas - I've got a Secret
Here is a great old video of the famous pool player, Jean Balukas who was the first famous woman pool player - yea, before Allison Fisher and Jeanette Lee. This video is from a show called "I've got a secret" and features a 6 year old little girl (Jean) that shows off her skills on the Pool Table. Later they bring on her younger sister and she hits a few.
Jean Balukas left the sport she dominated in 1988 after a WPBA fine of $200 was imposed after a tournament in Las Vegas. Ms Balukas refused to pay the fine and walked away from pool, never to play in a professional tournament again. I guess sometimes it is a matter of principal or morals - looking back, if she had it to do all over again - Would she walk away again?

Support your local Pool Rooms
We all have been hit hard during this recession. Pool rooms are closing every month in almost every state and for the sport I love, this is a hard fact to swallow. We as pool players can help our favorite rooms survive by eating there if they serve food, rather that stopping at a fast food place on our way to our Pool Room. Shop in their pro-shop rather than going online and paying the same price anyway.
Friendships are also made in our pool rooms. If you are looking for work, your pool room may be a great way to network.

Drink, eat, play and most of all have fun

Infringement or Not...
Copyrights protects exact images, art and written words. Your blog is your copyrighted material. Your words and thoughts should be protected against anyone coping and pasting your message to their site without your permission, then claiming the article was written by them.
I've lately had an issue with someone claiming I infringed on their trademark and copyright - but this is not true. I did my research before naming my websites and picked names related to what I do.
Trademarks protects brand names. You can't trademark simple words that are used everyday or a term that just describes what your business does. An example would be GolfTees - this term just describes a T-Shirt company that specializes in Golf... Simply said. Changing the name to ParTees - Now this name could be trademarked as long as it doesn't infringe on another trademark already in the system.
Most everyone out there knows how to search Trademark law before making an accusation against someone, if you need more information about trademark law you can find it at http://www.uspto.gov/
